Freedom –
a contested concept
asphalt 2025 is about to start, and everyone can be there! Before we show the production “Blind Runner” in the Kleines Haus, festival directors Christof Seeger-Zurmühlen and Bojan Vuletic will officially open asphalt 2025. We are particularly pleased that Amir Reza Koohestani, director of “Blind Runner” and one of the most important Iranian theater makers of his generation, will give this year’s festival speech.
Koohestani currently lives in Berlin and works in Germany at Münchner Kammerspiele, Deutsches Theater in Berlin and Thalia Theater, among others. The theme of his opening speech will be freedom – in culture, in political contexts, in language. Koohestani will give his keynote speech in English, with German surtitles.
The festival opening will be musically framed by some of the asphalt fans’ particular favorites: the Argentinian band Desmadre Orkesta, who have already been our guests twice and have always played to sold-out crowds. The band members are constantly on the move, dancing, interacting with the audience and bursting with energy and good humor. They are just as convincing as a marching band on the street as they are on large festival stages and inspire with a rousing mixture of Balkan beats, Colombian cumbias, swing, jazz and Argentinian milongas.
The festival opening will take place in the foyer and on the terrace behind the Schauspielhaus.
