‘Magical’
Jazz thing

Intimate and innovative jazz at the highest level: trumpeter Maik Krahl’s quartet with saxophonist Stefan Karl Schmid, bassist Jakob Kühnemann and drummer Dominik Raab brings together outstanding musicians from the NRW jazz scene. Krahl’s compositions embody the spirit of the great days of jazz without coming across as nostalgic or perhaps replicating, respecting tradition while at the same time providing fresh impetus. Krahl’s fourth album “Magic of Consistency” was released a few months ago and was praised by the renowned British jazz blog marlbank as a “nimbly swinging hard bop album”. Maik Krahl is regarded as one of the leading German jazz trumpeters of his generation; his most influential teachers include Till Brönner, Malte Burba and the American jazz trumpeter Ryan Carniaux. His virtuoso, clear trumpet playing will undoubtedly unfold a luminescent magic on the Seebühne.

Maik Krahl studied jazz at the Carl Maria von Weber Hochschule für Musik in Dresden and at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen, played with greats such as Seamus Blake and Kurt Rosenwinkel and has released four albums to date. With his own quartet, Krahl has played numerous concerts in all the major jazz clubs in Germany as well as at festivals such as the International Jazz Week Burghausen, JazzBaltica, Hildener Jazztage, Trave-Jazz Festival, Jazzfest Bingen and the Birdland Radio Jazz Festival. He is a member of the Cologne Subway Jazz Orchestra, has worked with the WDR Big Band and won the HI Five Music Award in 2023. Concert tours have taken him to Greece, Guinea-Bissau, Canada, Croatia, Lithuania, Serbia, Senegal and the USA.
