»Victoria Halper and Kai Krösche have always pushed the limits of their art. And always thought big.«

Suddenly something is no longer right – where there was just a corridor, there is now a wall, and where memory just opened doors to times gone by, there is a bottomless void. Without signs, you can no longer find your way out of this crumbling building. But what if the helping hand is suddenly no longer there to guide you through the darkness? »Auflösung«, dissolution, is the second virtual reality production by video and performance artists Victoria Halper and Kai Krösche (DARUM), whose VR performance »[EOL]. End of Life« was invited to the Berlin Theatertreffen, won the Nestroy Prize and was awarded at many festivals. »Auflösung« sends the audience into a constantly changing, dissolving architecture. Against the backdrop of the growing care crisis, »Auflösung« sheds light on what it means for our society and those affected, when people in need of help can no longer be adequately cared for. What happens when we need guidance and support more than ever, but there is no one left to help? The mixed reality performance confronts its audience with a feeling of loss of control, invites them to question the way our society treats the ageing, the sick and the dying and confronts them with their own future vulnerability. The audience actively moves through real and – using a VR headset and controller – virtual spaces. This performance can only be experienced on your own. »Auflösung« premiered in Vienna in May and was co-produced by asphalt Festival. For the performances in Düsseldorf, a special spatial trail will be created in Halle_12.
As DARUM, video and performance artists Victoria Halper and Kai Krösche create performances, installations, films and works of sound, video and media art that endeavour to focus on exceptional states and phenomena in our society. Their works are shown at international theatre and film festivals and have won numerous awards.
