The public pianos are back! Since June 30, pianos open to the public have been set up throughout Düsseldorf, inviting people to make music. The asphalt Festival, in cooperation with Rheinbahn, has installed a city piano at the Heinrich-Heine-Allee subway station, and, in cooperation with the Düsseldorf City Library, has placed an instrument at KAP1 at the main train station, which also houses the Central Library. As is tradition, asphalt is thus kicking off the countdown to the start of the »Summer Festival of the Arts«. The city pianos will remain available for residents to play until the end of the festival. Amid the the hustle and bustle of urban life, they provide a chance to pause, take a seat at the keys, or simply enjoy the music of others.
The initiative was so well received at festivals in previous years that passersby played music on the instruments nearly around the clock. Time and again, musicians and singers also met specifically at the pianos for joint jam sessions and spontaneous concerts. Experience has shown that the city pianos also generate a great deal of buzz on social media, with numerous photos and videos posted under the hashtag #stadtklaviere.
