‘In passing, all Balkan stereotypes burst on the razor sharp needle point of this performance.’

Will Romnja manage to become a superstar in Vienna? What do the so-called »roots« still have to do with the second or even third generation? And how does the narrator fare, jumping back and forth between worlds, before arriving in Berlin in the end? The actress Vidina Popov weaves interviews, documentaries and encounters into a fast-paced, 360-degree musical investigation of the concept of ‘home’. She explores its loss, the associated clichés and experiences in a new space. In her brilliant one-woman show, a mixture of theatre and stand-up, Popov exposes with biting humour how deceptive assumptions about others and oneself can be – spruced up with live music and a great deal of Balkan soul.
Vidina Popov was a member of the ensemble at the Gorki Theatre Berlin from 2017 to 2024. Born in Austria, she also works regularly in film and television, including in the ARD series “Der Lissabon Krimi” and “Tatort”. In 2024, she hosted the German theatre award FAUST. She has been successfully performing her self-written play “I am Bulgarian?!” for ten years, including at Deutsches Theater Berlin, Staatstheater Hannover and Heimathafen Neukölln.
