‘Lehmann Brothers is sure to bring some sunshine straight to your speakers and a killer bass-line for your dancing shoes.’
Afropunk

The Lehmanns Brothers are not named after a money-burning New York bank, but after a garage on Avenue Lehmann in Angoulême in south-west France. Influenced by funk gods like Prince and D’Angelo, the music students formed a band here in 2012 to revive the famous jazz funk of the ’70s and infuse it with hip-hop, house and nu-soul sounds. An infernal rhythm section, fiery brass, funky guitars and the incredible vocalist Julien Angelade create a unique, groovy sound with influences from James Brown, Jamiroquai, The Roots and A Tribe Called Quest. Their new album “Playground” (2024) also exudes funk – dreamy and urban, floating and percussive. In their early years, they wowed audiences as the opening act for Maceo Parker, Fred Wesley and the Wu-Tang Clan. Today they perform all over Europe and have appeared at jazzahead, Leverkusen Jazztage and the Montreux Jazz Festival. We couldn’t think of anyone better than these beasts of the stage to open asphalt 2025!

What the press say:

‘It’s always good to have a few idols. But it’s even better when you don’t just copy the sound of your musical role models. Instead, you feed it with your own ideas, expand and vary it. That’s exactly what the Lehmanns Brothers do.’
WDR

‘Sun and smiles find their natural habitat in these twelve tracks with warm colours and an unwavering groove.’
WECB Radio on “Playground”
